Inside the First Creekside Cigar Club Box

Creekside Podcast Ep. 010: Inside the First Creekside Cigar Club Box

From Creekside Podcast Ep. 010: You NEED To Join This Cigar Club, aired Mar 11, 2025. Recorded at Creekside Cigar Co. in Maineville, Ohio.

On this episode of the Creekside Podcast, Dave, Conor Pilcher and Noah Tucker introduce the five cigars selected for the first Creekside Cigar Club shipment. They explain why each made the cut, from an approachable Connecticut-wrapped cigar to a bold, cinnamon-forward Corojo. The selection reflects a simple idea: the crew chose cigars they genuinely smoke and want members to experience, rather than filling a box with random picks.

What is the Creekside Cigar Club selection based on?

The club is built around the crew’s real preferences. Dave explains that he had wanted to create a cigar subscription for years, but the idea clicked when it became a way to share what the team was already smoking. The selections are intended to represent the tastes of Dave, Noah, Conor and the rest of the Creekside crew, not simply the best deals they could find.

That personal approach also gives the team a chance to feature brands they enjoy and want to support. Some may already be familiar to members; others may be names they have not encountered or cigars they have been curious about. The crew sees the first box as a starting point for sharing good tobacco and introducing members to makers they respect.

Each monthly selection includes five cigars. The team also describes a 10-count option with two of each cigar. Members receive a booklet with a QR code, and the five selections are available for box purchases online with a 20% discount for club members.

Which approachable cigar made the first box?

Noah picked a Rodriguez Connecticut-shade cigar, which he described as an easy choice for smokers at different experience levels. He particularly likes it for people moving from infused cigars, pipe smoking or just beginning to explore cigars. Its Connecticut shade wrapper and double binder were part of the discussion, along with the care taken in making the line.

Noah called it versatile and said he believes the cigars are aged for four years after rolling. He finds it approachable without being one-dimensional. Dave and the others discussed flavors including cinnamon, cocoa and vanilla sweetness, as well as a satisfying amount of body. The point was not that every smoker will taste exactly the same thing, but that this cigar offers a comfortable bridge into natural tobacco while still giving experienced smokers plenty to enjoy.

Why did the crew choose the Serino Wayfarer 109?

Conor’s selection was the Serino Wayfarer 109. He said he had tried nearly every size in the line and that the 109 was his favorite format. For him, its most distinctive quality is its natural sweetness, which he described as making the cigar feel suitable at different times of day and alongside different drinks.

Conor highlighted toasted coconut, floral character and a roasted quality, while also noting that the cigar has enough depth to avoid feeling thin or airy. He praised its value and its blend of tobaccos from different regions. Dave recalled first trying it years earlier and being struck by a toasted-coconut impression. The crew also sees it as a useful option for smokers transitioning from infused cigars because of its naturally sweet character.

What flavors stood out in the other three cigars?

Dave chose a Crowned Heads Habano cigar in the Duke size. He described it as mild-to-medium in strength, with baking spices, cocoa, oak and toast. He also enjoys its retrohale and a noticeable flavor change around the midpoint. The selection followed a positive experience with another cigar from the brand, and Dave said this Habano version landed in his preferred range.

The Aganorsa Leaf Rare Leaf Reserve Corojo, in a Lonsdale size, was a shared pick. Noah said cinnamon candy was prominent from the start, with red pepper, leather and vanilla also appearing in the profile. Dave described a savory quality and a strong cinnamon note. Both were enthusiastic about the cigar, with Noah calling it his current favorite.

The final selection was the Domain Cigars Jimmy Neutron in a Robusto. Dave said it was the strongest cigar in the box and advised against smoking it on an empty stomach. He described its Mexican San Andrés wrapper and a sweet, Habano-like character, with substantial flavor and body. The crew also praised its construction and the spice cabinet quality of its room note. Dave was especially interested in featuring Domain because the brand was new to Creekside’s humidor and he wanted more smokers to discover it.
