Description

Wrapper: Mexican San Andres Maduro
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Long-aged Nicaraguan
Origin: Nicaragua
Size: 6 1/4" x 52 Toro

The Crux Epicure Maduro Toro wears a Mexican San Andres maduro wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and a long-aged all-Nicaraguan filler. Blended alongside A.J. Fernandez at his Esteli factory and released in May 2019, it is the medium-to-full entry in the Epicure trilogy. The 6 1/4 x 52 Toro gives the blend the room it needs to unfold slowly.

Rich mocha and cocoa open the cigar, followed by espresso beans and deep, rich earth. Black pepper carries the early thirds before shifting to white pepper late, with cedar and a sweet tobacco, stewed raisin note providing balance. Smoky barbecue and char build through the back half, closing on leather with a dry, mineral-tinged finish.

This is a cigar for smokers who like their maduros savory and substantial rather than simply sweet. Give it an hour and a half after a good meal, with a neat whiskey or a cup of black coffee alongside. Sold in 20-count boxes and five-packs, it is an easy one to keep in steady rotation.
