Description
Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf
Binder: Nicaraguan Habano
Filler: Nicaraguan ligero
Origin: Nicaragua
Size: 5" x 50 Robusto (box-pressed)
The Oliva Master Blends 3 Robusto is the brand's artisanal showpiece: a sun-grown Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over a Nicaraguan Habano binder and a core of Cuban-seed Nicaraguan ligero grown on the Oliva family's own estates. Rolled at TABOLISA in Estelí and box-pressed in a classic 5 x 50 Robusto, it delivers the depth you would expect from a blend built on ligero — full-flavored, structured, and impeccably put together.
Expect dark chocolate and coffee with cream up front, moving into earthy spice, brown sugar sweetness and supple leather. Cedar and wood run underneath the whole smoke, cinnamon threads through the middle, and a snap of black pepper shows up on the retrohale to keep everything sharp.
Released in 2006 as the third and final entry in Oliva's Master Blends series, this one was long produced in small annual quantities from tobaccos originally reserved for the family, and Holt's still calls it the brand's true Crown Jewel at 92 rated. Save it for the end of a long day with an espresso or a peaty scotch. If you have been meaning to try the Oliva blend that collectors keep talking about, the Robusto is the place to start.
