What is Surpassion Tun Legacy?

Tun Legacy is the Marine Corps release from Surpassion Cigars, the veteran-founded brand behind Valor, King of Battle and Queen of Battle. Each Surpassion line honors a part of America's armed forces. Surpassion describes Tun Legacy as a cigar that honors 250 years of Marine valor, discipline and brotherhood, and as "a salute to every Marine who has answered the call."

At the time of writing, Surpassion's own site still lists Tun Legacy as coming soon. Creekside is the first retailer to have it on the shelf and shipping to customers.

Why is it called Tun Legacy?

The name comes from Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, where the Marine Corps traces its beginning. On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized two battalions of Marines, and Captain Samuel Nicholas began recruiting the first Marines at Tun Tavern. That date is still celebrated as the Marine Corps birthday. You can read more from the U.S. Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Times.

What does Surpassion Tun Legacy taste like?

According to Surpassion, Tun Legacy opens with dark cocoa, charred oak and white pepper, then develops into espresso, cinnamon and layered spice. Restrained sweetness rounds out the darker roasted notes. If you like cigars built around cocoa, coffee, wood and pepper, this one belongs on your list.

We rate Tun Legacy full-bodied. The Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper gives it the dark, rich character Broadleaf smokers look for.

How does Tun Legacy compare with King of Battle?

Tun Legacy and Surpassion King of Battle share a lot. Both wear a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, both come in a 6x50 Toro, and both open with dark cocoa and charred oak in Surpassion's descriptions. King of Battle honors 250 years of U.S. Army artillery and adds cracked black pepper and earth. Tun Legacy leans toward white pepper, cinnamon and spice. If King of Battle is already in your rotation, Tun Legacy is the natural next cigar to try. King of Battle also comes in a Robusto.

Who makes Surpassion cigars?

Surpassion was founded by Asad Imtiaz, a U.S. Army veteran with more than 20 years in cigars, including years working as a retail tobacconist. The brand is veteran-owned, based in Palatka, Florida, and built on discipline, craftsmanship and the values of military service.
